Gilardino snubs Chelsea bid Saturday 4 June, 2005

After Adriano’s refusal, now Alberto Gilardino has also distanced himself
from Chelsea’s ￡30m bid, insisting he wants to join Milan.
Yesterday it was reported that Parma had accepted an offer for the Italian
international, though a deal cannot be completed until the relegation play-off
with Bologna.
“Chelsea have not lodged any official bid for Gilardino,” announced the 23-
year-old's agent Bonetto. “In fact, we don’t even know of any negotiations.
What I can say is that the player would prefer a move to Milan.”
This is the second snub that the Stamford Bridge outfit has received in the
space of a few days, as fellow Serie A star Adriano has also publicly
dismissed a switch to the Premiership.
“Gilardino would like to stay in Italy and his first choice is Milan, but we
shouldn't rule Chelsea out entirely. I would consider Real Madrid an unlikely
solution, though. We hope everything can be sorted out as soon as possible
without waiting until the end of August.”
However, Parma's financial difficulties mean that they could try to push
Gilardino towards Chelsea if faced with an offer that is ￡10m higher than
Milan’s.
“I will go to dinner with patron Silvio Berlusconi on Monday evening and try
to convince him that we need to spend money to create a winning team”revealed
Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani.
“I've heard that Chelsea’s Peter Kenyon will go to Parma on Wednesday to
discuss an important player. That means I’ll have to trip him up!”
Gilardino has scored 46 Serie A goals in the last two seasons, but will miss
tonight's World Cup qualifier in Norway due to injury.
