ABBIATI, 42 YEARS LATER
A Milan keeper has been back defending the National team goal after over 42
years. With Christian Abbiati's debut in the Azzurro team on Wednesday night,
one of the most incredible taboos in the history of Italian football and of Mi-
lan in particular is over. The last Rossonero keeper wearing the National team
shirt in an official game was Giorgio Ghezzi, who was nicknamed 'Kamikaze' in a
period in which this word was still having a noble meaning. He made a lone app-
earance (out of six games he was called-up to) while being a Milan player: on
April 25 1961 in a Italy 3-2 victory over Northern Ireland. Before him, we must
go back to the Fifties with Lorenzo Buffon, a cousin of the irremovable first-
team keeper of today.Since that time no other Rossonero keeper has ever had the
hounour to defend the National side, if we don't consider the game the Azzurri
won 10-0 against the USA, on April 2 1975 (not mentioned in the official regis-
ter of the Italian Football Federation)in which substitute Ricky Albertosi took
the pitch at half-time. Afterwards, many other legendary Rossonero goalkeepers
were called-up to the National team, such as Giovanni Galli and Sebastiano Ros-
si, but they were never used.

但他們從未獲得過上場機會
