MALDINI: 'Every game is a lesson'

MILANELLO - Paolo Maldini meets the journalists at press conference. The
Rossonero captain focuses on the differences between the two games Milan
played within three days against Chievo in the Coppa Italia and at Udinese in
the league: 'Udinese vs Milan is behind. However, every game is a lesson, both
if you do well as we did at Chievo or if you play poorly as at Udine. We have
understood and worked upon our mistakes. The game at Udine was different from
the Coppa Italia one. Udinese pressed us en masse and we failed a lot of
passes. We didn't even manage to come back when they were 10 men: at that
point we should have used our brain more but we did as if there were only few
minutes left, not fourty'.

MALDINI: 'Nowadays it's harder than in the past'

MILANELLO - Asked about the psychological attitude of the present Milan,
compared to Arrigo Sacchi's team, Paolo Maldini answers: 'Nowadays we are
faced to more difficulties than in the days of Sacchi. There are more sides
who are competitive, the average standard has increased. However, also at
those times, it happened to us to lose. Our present team is very good. We
have also managed to equal Roma's record of points in the first half of the
season. A comparison with Capello's invincible team? Their unbeaten run of
58 games is unreachable for everyone, not only for Milan'.

MALDINI: 'I don't think Modena will close ranks in defence'

MILANELLO - Maldini spurs his team-mates in view of the game against Modena:
'We must be more brilliant than in the second half at Udine. We must start
strong, without thinking to solve the solution in the first minutes. We must
be calm and alert. We have improved since the first leg at Modena. That game
marked the beginning of a magic spell for us, full of successes. Modena are
not going through a positive period, but in their last game against Atanata
they were just unlucky. We will do our utmost to win, as we can do it. Apart
from Brescia, we have always won at the San Siro, although our opponents
closed ranks in defence. I don't think Modena will do it, however. I saw
their game against Inter: they suffered when they were closing in defence. On
the contrary, when they started to attack, they managed to be dangerous. Also
their coach admitted it. If they masse en defence, they won't be favourite'.

Modena: 'I don't know anything precise, but there may be some changes. The
team is wide, rotation is logical and necessary. We have many solutions, I'm
not worried. It was just a defeat, not a bad spell'. The two-group Serie A
reform: 'I haven't understood the new proposal, but it seems hard to be put
into practice. I haven't balanced pros and cons yet, but the last ones seem
to be more'.The salary cap: 'First of all we must start talking about it.
It's time to talk'.
