MALDINI: 'Berlusconi has always managed to build great teams'

MILANELLO - Paolo Maldini was the star of the day in the club's press room. It
has been impossible for the captain not to speak about today's anniversary in
which Silvio Berlusconi has celebrated 18 years as Milan president. He said:
'They have been 18 wonderful years, full of satisfaction. The president has
always enjoyed himself very much and this milestone comes in a moment in which
he is still enjoying himself very much. At the end of the game with Deportivo,
he was really happy. He told us that this team gives him plenty of fun, apart
from the victory itself. Over years Berlusconi has created spectacular teams,
apart from winning ones. The atmosphere atl Milan has always been special,
there has always been great confidence, and this feature has allowed us to win
a lot. The secret of this club is the mentality the president has conveyed. A
winning mentality, here everything is well-organized and the players are given
the conditions to perform at their maximum.'
Maldini remembers the day in which Berlusconi acquired the club. He said: 'We
had great hopes that Berlusconi would become president. I was a youngster, it
was all new to me, it was my great fortune to play a major part in the
Berlusconi era. The arrival of [Arrigo] Sacchi, [Ruud] Gullit and[Marco] Van
Basten was a clear sign of what the club wanted, spectacle.'

MILANELLO - Paolo Maldini then focused on the great season Milan are going
through. He said: 'This is a golden period. We can say that from January 6 we
have put foot to the floor, maintaining a high pace. Now the hardest part of it
comes: we must confirm what good we have done so far and we are ready to do it.
We feel good, we enjoy ourselves, everything is easy for us on the pitch. The
important thing is not to give up.'
After the Immortals and the Invincibles, this Milan side have been nicknamed
the 'Wonder Boys'. He added: 'It is difficult to make comparisons, the
important is that it is among winning sides. Of course, there are analogies but
also many differences. The crowds have understood that this Milan side want to
play well, and if there has been difficult periods over the years, I think they
have been useful to rejoyce of these victories. Where can we improve? Perhaps
in the approach to the games, sometimes we start badly and then we play great
second halves. The good thing, instead, is our balance, despite our offensive
mentality. In terms of attractive football, I think this is one of the best
Milan sides I've played in. A technical and innovative team, I won't change it
even with Real Madrid. In defence, we are stronger.'

不過，隊長仍然認為米蘭還是有需要改進的地方
比如說「慢熱」的現象，米蘭通常在下半場才會表現出正常的實力
不過，隊長也表示，他喜歡米蘭現在的打法
也覺得米蘭最大的優點在於「攻守平衡」
即便是面對RM這樣的強隊，他也相信米蘭會打出兼具技術與創新的比賽

MALDINI: 'Kaka is a unique talent'

MILANELLO - The captain had words of praise for Kaka. He said: 'We all agree on
saying that Kaka is a real discovery. He is a unique talent: he can work up and
down in some parts of the pitch, but is also creative and inspirational in the
build up, with his extraordinary sense of goal. Fortunately, we signed him and
we are all overjoyed that he is part of this group. [Marcos] Cafu and [Pippo]
Pancaro's contribution also surprised us, their performance is really
incredible.'
Asked about the mood of the players who are used less, capitan Maldini
explained: 'Last season the atmosphere in the dressing room made the difference
. It is a situation we can manage very well, of course who plays less has not
the same enthusiasm of those who always have a start, but it is quite normal.
No problem in this sense.'
A comment about a future possible move of Edgar Davids. Maldini said: 'He
joined us in the worst period, but there were no problems with his character.
It is true that Davids has a strong personality but Milan do want people like
him. I don't know if he returns to the club, we'll see at the end of the season
.'
Last but not least, the defender spoke about his contract's extension until
2006. He said: 'At the age of 36 you have to do short-term plans, but now I am
fine, the team is in form, the club are proud and all this had increased the
desire to extend my stay.'

他認為他是一個具有驚人天分的球員，不管是在凜先或落後的情形下他的表現都一樣的精
彩。同時隊長也認為CAFU和PANCARO這賽季的加入也讓米蘭的實力提升很多。
再者記者問到替補球員的心情
隊長表示由於上賽季的相處讓彼此已經培養出一份堅定的情感
上場的球員對於勝利的感受當然會比場下得球員來的興奮，這是很正常的
在更衣室內，大家的氣氛相當的融洽。
談到DAVIDS的轉會消息
他表是米蘭需要像他這樣堅毅不饒的球員，他期盼他重回米蘭。
談到他與俱樂部的續約
他說道：
「在36歲這樣的年紀時，總是必須一些短程的未來規劃，但是我現在的體能很好，
這支球隊又是這樣的堅強、米蘭又是這樣偉大的俱樂部，這一切的一切都是驅使我
留在米蘭的原因。」
