Jaap Stam has played his last game for Milan after the Dutchman
underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday.

The giant stopper picked up the problem on Sunday as he fell
awkwardly in the 2-0 win over Livorno.

Rossoneri medics were hoping to avoid an operation, but tests
picked up ligament damage which required the player to go under
the knife.

“The procedure carried out at Varese by professor Cherubino was
a success,” read a note on the club’s website.

Stam won’t wear the Rossoneri jersey again as the former Manchester
United and Lazio man will leave Milan in the summer.

Stam signed a two-year contract with Ajax in January after telling
the club that he was keen on a return to his homeland for family reasons.
