Andriy Shevchenko is happy to take a pay cut if it means escaping Chelsea for
his Milan comeback.
The return of the prodigal son has been mooted ever since a few months after
his ￡30m move in the summer of 2006.
The Ukrainian, who forced the transfer against the Rossoneri’s initial
wishes, never settled in at Stamford Bridge and is eager for another San Siro
experience.
According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, Milan general manager
Adriano Galliani met with Sheva and has now flown to Sardinia for talks with
Chelsea counterpart Peter Kenyon.
Although he had previously said the club would only be able to take
Shevchenko back on loan, that situation seems to have changed.
Milan would be willing to pay a small sum for the striker, aided by the
voluntary reduction of the current ￡6.4m per season wages to the ￡3.9m he
had been earning when he left Italy.
In fact, so eager is Shevchenko for this move that he would even be content
to cut the pay packet further.
This would allow Milan to reinforce their attack with both Shevchenko and
Arsenal hitman Emmanuel Adebayor, whose transfer seems increasingly likely
for around ￡20m.
