Milan are laying the groundwork for a "giant" defence by opening negotiations
for Monaco's Cedric Mongongu and Hamburg's Guy Demel.
Both players are over 6'2" and despite being African in origin - Mongongu was
born in Zaire and Demel in the Ivory Coast - they also have French passports.
Milan are looking to rejuvenate but also re-dimension their backline as
Alessandro Nesta and Beppe Favalli aren't getting any younger.
Kakha Kaladze is also on his way out of the club with Lyon, Zenit St.Petersburg
and Dynamo Kyiv lining up bids for the Georgia international.
Leonardo wants to add height and physicality to his defence and both Mongongu
and Demel fit the bill, according to Milan's technical director Ariedo Braida.
Il Corriere dello Sport understands Milan are also keen to bring 22-year-old
defender Davide Astori back from his loan spell at Cagliari. However, he is
unlikely to return until the end of the season.
While Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has reiterated that the club won't
be doing any more business in January after signing Dominic Adiyiah and David
Beckham, the Italian Press believes one of either Mongongu or Demel will arrive
with the other joining in the summer.
