  BARRANQUILLA - Brazil clinched a 2-1 win in Colombia on Sunday in
their World Cup 2006 opening qualifier.

  Milan midfielder Kaka came on as a second-half substitute and scored
the winner with his first kick of the game. The Rossoneri's rising star
combined well with Ronaldo, before hitting home a powerful shot from 20
metres.The Real Madrid striker had put the world champions ahead in the
first half while Colombia replied through Juan Pablo Angel.

  Milan goalkeeper Nelson Dida and full-back Cafu played the entire match.
Rivaldo almost scored in the first half but was denied by a goalline save.

The match started at 6pm local time at the Metropolitan stadium in Barran-
quilla

Colombia 1-2 Brazil

    Brazil dealt Colombia a 2-1 loss in Barranquilla to conclude South
America's opening round of World Cup qualifying for Germany 2006.

    Playing like the five-time world champions they are, the "selecao"
wasted little time pressuring Oscar Cordoba's goal. In the 22nd minute
Ronaldo picked up where he left off in Korea/Japan. "Fenomeno" took a
cross from Ze Roberto and beat Cordoba with a precise left-footed shot.

    But a defensive miscue from the blue-shirted Brazilians allowed the
home side a way back. Colombia took advantage when Juan Pablo Angel beat
Lucio to a high ball, and the Villa striker headed past Dida to tie the
score. The "cafeteros" were fortunate to be tied at the break.

    Francisco Maturana altered his lineup during the break by inserting
Elson Becerra and Mauricio Molina for Restrepo and Patino respectively.
The shake-up provided Colombia with a boost early on in the second frame,
but it was Carlos Alberto Parreira's counter-insertion that won the match.
Parreira countered with the introduction of Kaka and Renato on the hour
mark in place of Emerson and Alex, and the Brazilian manager made an
ingenious decision.

    A minute later Ronaldo found Kaka at the edge of the penalty area, and
the Milan midfielder beat Cordoba from distance to put Brazil ahead for
good and to silence the home crowd indefinitely.

    Brazil's gifted attackers continued to overrun the opposition defense,
but Colombia were fortunate not to allow Cordoba's goal to be breached any
more.

    On Wednesday Brazil host Ecuador, who were 2-0 winners over Venezuela
on Saturday. Colombia, the only host-country to lose thus far, travels to
the high altitude of Bolivia on the same evening.
