MOSCOW -- Former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina will lead Russia in
the Fed Cup final against France, Russia captain Shamil Tarpishchev said on
Monday.
He also named Elena Dementieva, last year's losing finalist at Roland Garros
and Flushing Meadows, Dinara Safina and Vera Douchevina for the Sept. 17-18
encounter on clay in Paris.
Tarpishchev kept faith in the same team which beat the United States 4-1 in
the semifinals in Moscow in July, deciding against recalling 2004 U.S. Open
champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and this year's French Open semifinalist Nadia
Petrova.
Kuznetsova has struggled with her form this year and last week she became
the first defending U.S. Open women's champion to lose in the first round.
Last year's Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova has turned down an invitation
to play for Russia this year.
It will be the second consecutive final between the two nations. Myskina
powered Russia to their first Fed Cup title against last year in Moscow by
winning both of her singles matches before teaming up with Vera Zvonareva
in the decisive doubles to clinch a 3-2 victory.
