Mexes to snub Roma Monday 23 June, 2003
Roma look set to miss out on another defender as the proposed move for Philippe Mexes is on the rocks.
Stories in the Italian media over the weekend suggested that the Frenchman wanted a capital switch but his agent has ruled that out.
"Philippe has never said that he intends to leave Auxerre for any club," stated Olivier Jouanneaux.
"He is an Auxerre player and will continue to be even if he is the middle of a court proceeding against them."
Mexes (pictured) had become the club’s number one objective after they lost Nicola Legrottaglie to Juventus last week.
The 21-year-old is highly rated in the French game and had been linked with moves to Man Utd and Arsenal.
This latest development could see Roma now concentrate solely on landing Mexican ace Rafael Marquez.
The stopper is set to leave Monaco this summer and is in favour of joining the Giallorossi as soon as possible.
According to some reports, sporting director Franco Baldini is set to meet with Marquez’s agent on Tuesday for talks.
