It was a night to forget for the Giallorossi, who seemed destined for a heavy
defeat right from the onset against reigning champions Inter Milan at the
Stadio Olimpico in Rome and that was precisely how it ended.
It was a night of disappointment for the capital club as they succumbed to a
0-4 defeat at home to bitter riavls Inter Milan, all but ending their hopes
of success in the league this season.
After just seven Serie A fixtures this season, Spalletti’s men have lost as
many matches as they did throughout the entire 07/08 campaign and with still
seven months to go to the end of this term, it could very well be a long
season ahead for the Romans.
On the other hand, the one and only positive note to come from the Inter
humiliation was the return of their talismanic captain Francesco Totti from
injury.
The iconic forward injured himself in the middle of April earlier this year
in Roma’s 1-1 draw at Livorno but finally he made his first start of the
season tonight and the capital club will be hoping that he can be the man to
turn their fortunes around.
Although pleased to have made his comeback, ‘Il Capitano’ was disappointed
with himself and his team mates after the heavy loss.
“I am pleased to have played an hour tonight, but at this time, I am more
concerned about our spot in the table.”
The Roman icon went on to add, “I believe that with the staff and team we
have, we will be able to get out of the bottom half soon and I think we will
work everything out shortly.
“We have the personnel to recover as soon as possible because they aren’t
afraid of making changes and trying new things to succeed, but it’s up to us
as the players to deliver the results.”
He concluded throwing his support behind his boss Luciano Spalletti: “Year
after year we improve, so it's clear that the issue is not our coach.”
Totti certainly has the faith in his fellow team mates to get their season
back on track and they will be hoping to do so as soon as possible, starting
next weekend away to Udinese.
