Italy midfielder Simone Perrotta will be fit enough to take his place in
Roberto Donadoni’s final squad for Euro 2008, his doctor has revealed.
The 30-year-old was named in Donadoni’s 24-man provisional squad last week,
and had been guaranteed a spot in the final 23.
However he then picked up a calf injury during Saturday night’s Coppa Italia
final victory for Roma against Inter, and his participation at Euro 2008 was
called into question.
Last night the England-born schemer was treated by Dr Mario Brozzi, who
believes his fitness should not be a problem.
“He feels better. I am hopeful as his body is already reacting well to my
treatment,” said Brozzi.
“I stayed with him until late and he felt much better than he did on
Saturday. He had a painful feeling on his calf, on the inside close to the
knee.
“We decided it was better for him to go out because that could have been a
complicated injury. It could have been caused by cramps, or something else.”
Donadoni will cut one player when he sends his official 23-player squad to
UEFA on Thursday, and with this news it now seems even more likely that
either Riccardo Montolivo or Alberto Aquilani will be the player to be
snubbed.
