[國中] 請問 the比較級+the比較級 的這個文法

[staninvan (Right to Remain Silence)]

例句：The harder you study, the better grades you get.

上面這句雖然是cliche，但被問到為什麼比較級前面會有the還真的回答不出來。

正常來說，應該是the最高級，請問為什麼在這種情況下是the比較級呢？

會是慣用規則嗎？

但似乎又有另一種說法是特定用法，譬如

That house is the more expensive of the two.

由於限定of the two的範圍，因此必須要針對比較級做特定。

但是我認為上面的the比較級the比較級文法並沒有辦法類比，

兩者似乎並非同類，因此不知道如何解釋。
