※ 引述《Alex1227 (Zoom~)》之銘言:
: "Sounds Right??"這題A: Must I pick you up after school?
: B: 比較好的答案: No, you don't have to(這是語氣
: 強度)
: You mustn't(語氣相當強烈,甚至有禁止的語氣) You don't have to(more polite)
: Please don't make judgment based on "the language gut feeling."
: There is a reason behind this, though.
Dear Almighty Teacher:
I am just one of those people who happen to think that this question
is not about social etiquette, but about common usage. Yes you are right,
I am also one of those who believe deeply in gut feelings.
I am sorry that you don't see it that way, but at least we can
agree on what we disagree.
I have a lot to say about that certain fixated, overtly critical atmosphere
present in our high school (be it senior high or junior high) classrooms.
But I am going to refrain myself from letting it out here.
I guess you and others are why some parents rather send their kids
overseas, allow me to be a little blunt here.
I am sure you are holding your standardized, government certified
grammar books very close to your heart, and to some degree you may
have even memorized these simple rules which you dance by and apply
them indiscriminately in all cases across the board with your eyes closed.
Don't get me wrong, no one is blaming you for it, and I am not saying what
you were saying was completely wrong; it might've been a typical
explanation you give in the classrooms.
At any rate, I truly hope you and your arm folding, like-minded colleagues
will one day come around.
And I hope you folks would try to broaden your horizon a bit more, be a little
less critical, and start putting more ABC together yourself for a start.
After all, If all our English teachers can do is to sit on their hands and be
critical of other people's writing, how are they going to inspire any of
their students to enjoy composing in English? English is not just a bunch of
mechanic rules, I sorry to say that.
I am glad you gave me a chance to write this letter to you, and
I look forward to your response in English.
Cheers ^^
A Disrespectful Student
