這題可以有兩種改法

- 把 themselves 改成 them
- 把 themselves 去掉

這兩種改法都可以，只是意思不一樣而已。
沒有上下文，不能說只能改哪個。

我之前的推文的看法沒錯，除了第三行（可以有兩種改法）

推 outofdejavu:3. I think "themselves" would refer to "a series
→ outofdejavu:   of indicators"
→ outofdejavu:   The correction would be "them"
→ outofdejavu:   them => researchers
Your first example (*1) is incorrect because "help themselves" indicates
those people are taking some action on their own, by their own hand,
which helps them. This is much like "help themselves find seats" or
"help themselves to food." Those "indicators" are helping them rather
than they are helping themselves.

Your second (*2) and last (*3) examples are correct depending on context.

*2 Researchers are investigating a series of indicators that could help
   them predict earthquakes. (改成 them)

*3 Researchers are investigating a series of indicators that could
   help predict earthquakes. (去掉 themselves)

For your second example, "help them" suggests a context of those
"indicators" being used only by a select group of people, used
only by a specific group of researchers or scientists. 

Your final example suggests a context those indicators will be
available to everyone, not just a select group. This example
is probably best to use because this type of information is almost always
made available on a worldwide basis.

both (2) and (3) are correct, but (2) is closest to the sense which was
presumably intended in sentence (1).
The difference between (2) and (3) has to do with who will do the
predicting; (3) leaves it unspecified, whereas (2) clearly links back
to "the researchers".  (Having said that, the usual, common-sense
interpretation of (3) is the same as (2).)
