昨天在學生的一本講義裡面看到一題是介紹"除此之外"的用法
講義裡面舉了兩個例子：
1. Every student passes the exam except/but Tom.
                                 ^^^^^^^^^^

2. There are five late besides Tom.
   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^        ^^^^^
           A                    B


講義在第2題的解釋當A和B情況相同時，besides可解釋為包含。

那學生問我，第1題如果把except/but換成besides，
是不是可以解釋為"包含Tom在內的學生都通過測驗?"

我想請問一下，這題該怎麼解釋給學生聽比較好?

推 starshines:我覺得不行耶 怪怪的 如果第一題要用besides every應改
→ starshines:為all the other比較好 All the other students pass
→ starshines:the exam besides Tom. 這樣是不是通順多？因為要把Tom
→ starshines:排除 所以用all the "other". 或者若不強調student 也
→ starshines:可改成besides Tom, everyone else passes the exam.
→ starshines:原因同上 用else把Tom排除 我是這樣覺得的
推 tiasu:我也覺得很怪，因為every student 就已經是全部的學生，為何
→ tiasu:要再加上Tom? 這樣句子會變得沒有意義嚕(我是這樣覺得啦)^^
