I am used to getting up in the morning. 2. I used to get up in the morning. 3. I was used to getting up in the morning. Both cases 1 & 2 share the same tense and the same referent. (1) the speaker ("I") is speaking in the present tense, and (2) s/he is referring to repetition of the same pattern of behaviour (i.e. 'get up in the morning'). What is different between the two cases is whilst case 1 suggests the fact that the speaker makes it a habit to get up in the morning, case 2 suggests getting up in the morning is a routine the speaker implies s/he no longer practices now. Case 3 is simply the equivalent to case 1 except that the speaker is speaking in the past tense. So the speaker made it a habit to get up in the morning PERIOD. Frankly all three cases need context to interpret the exact meaning of each, but cases 1 and 3 are less ambiguous than case 2. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.168.91.251
