It seems very hard : for them to memorize a word because they're not : familiar with phonics. I remember that we used : to learned KK. Once we knew the rules of the : pronunciation, we can memorize words very quick. : Here is my question: : Is it better to use Phonics in Taiwan? My answer is YES:) Phonics is realli useful, I think most of teachers know the reason. However, it's not easy to remember dat. For my case, my kids spent whole summer to rememebr how to write A~Z and how these 26 symbols pronuce. We keep practicin' and practicin'. Even they are in their second stage now, some of them still need to drill more on these 26 symbols. Hence, I need to review these 26 letters and teach them new phonics stuff. I think it's not easy to do that. My suggustion is to drill them more and more as you can . When they are ready , you can move on your new ideas. About kk, I want to tell you. I think we can combine them together with phonics. The situation in my school is to teach kids both KK and phonics. Of course, phonics is the very first one. When kids are kinda familiar wiz phonics. We give them KK and teach them they can use KK as a tool to remember words' pronunciation. So, on their phonics books, I ask them to write KK symbols. On their KK books, I tell them how these symbols related to phonics. EX: When they see [au], think about -OW words. Such as bow/ cow/ now/ ..... :) kinda sleepi, Q_Q dun wanna go check my spellin' mistakes. Sowwie 'bout dat.
