[PatsyGallagh ('cause we believe...)]

關於歌名

"Brian-storm" 其實是從另一個英文字
"Brain-storm" 而來，原有「腦力激盪；集思廣益」的意思
而字尾 "storm" 則意指「風暴」
所以這首歌名被動過手腳的開場曲，或可直譯為「布萊恩旋風」

這樣戲耍諧音字，擾亂視覺認知的遊戲除了趣味、創新效果之外
也不無 Al 一貫對於「表象」「成規」質疑的意味
(不留意的話我們還是會根據刻板印象，把這首歌名看成叫成 "Brain-storm":P)

歌曲大意詮釋

藉由既欣羨又嘲諷的敘事口吻，Al 生動的傳達了一個悶騷的人(咳咳，就是他自己!)
對於 Brian 這類特立獨行又吃得開的傢伙，羨慕嚮往卻始終保持距離的不同掛心態
同時也對周遭被 Brian 外表裝扮、行為舉止吃得死死甚至被利用的男男女女
作出了冷眼的批判觀察

因此稱 Brian 為 "storm" 這樣的誇飾法
一方面突顯了他的為所欲為
另一方面更嘲諷了輕易被他「暴風圈」(外在的虛張聲勢?)虜獲的盲目人們

翻譯

布萊恩，不刻意經營才是王道
你人真好讓我們沐浴在你不費吹灰之力的神采裡
我們衷心感恩如此奇異地被撫慰

因為我們的眼光絲毫離不開，你那T恤加領帶的搭配
世紀鬼才，待會見囉!

註 1) 這邊自謙自貶得誇張而顯得反諷的用字像是 "bless us with..."
      "We're grateful and so STRANGELY COMFORTED"
      不覺得 Al 唱這句的口氣很耐人尋味嗎^^||

註 2) "Innovator" 唱片公司翻成「世紀怪咖」有好有壞
      好的是「世紀」有把那種開創的氣勢翻出來
      壞的是「怪咖」偏向邊緣負面，而 Brian 明顯是很受歡迎的人物
      所以想破頭我選擇結合「世紀」和另一個讚詞「鬼才」

總之沒有你吃不開的地方
至少這是我粗淺的印象
因為你圓滑又善變
而那邊的正妹還沒發覺，但她遲早是你的了

註 3) 用 "wet" 來形容人，我查到字典的意義如下
      [Person]  BrE  unable to make decisions or take firm actions
      所以我翻成「善變」

She'll be saying "Use me, show me the Jacuzzi"
I imagine that it's there on a plate, your high rendezvous rate
Means you'll never be frightened to make 'em wait for a while
I doubt it's your style not to get what you set out to acquire
The eyes are on fire you are the un-forecasted storm

她不久就會巴著你說「利用我吧，帶我去按摩浴池那裡」
我想依你熱門的程度，一切都猶如盤中物
就像你從來都不怕讓人家癡等你
我懷疑照你的風格，怎麼可能會不去得到你想要的
你的雙眼早就蓄勢待發般的著火，你是無預警的暴風

註 4) "it's there on a plate, your high rendezvous rate" 很難翻
      我只能憑藉 "high rendezvous rate"「很高的約會次數程度」
      來推敲 "it's there on a plate" 到底是什麼 orz

註 5) "I doubt it's your style not to get what you set out to acquire"
      完全直譯如下:我懷疑你的風格會不去得到你預定要得到的東西

Calm, collected and commanding, you leave the other stories standing
With your renditions and jokes I bet there's hundreds of blokes
That have wept because you've stolen their.......Thunder
Are you putting us under?
Cos we can't take our eyes off the t-shirt and tie's combination

冷靜、自持又威風凜凜，你讓所有其他的故事相形失色
以你的說學逗唱和玩笑，我打賭那一群傢伙早就被颱風尾掃到不見
因為你一人就偷走了所有的...風采掌聲

註 6) 這段把 "storm" 的比喻發揮到極致，又是 "wept" 又是 "thunder"
      另外比較難翻譯的是 "renditions" 原來有「表演；演奏」之意
      這邊可視為 Brian 的才華，或者是說他整個人的行為舉止就像一個表演
      所以我有點折衷的翻成學說學逗唱，可能還是少了一點「表演」「表象」的感覺


卡拉OK心得

唱這首歌最好玩的地方就是模仿 Al 賤賤的奉承語氣:D
表面上在讚頌，骨子裡卻忍不住透露出一絲懷疑和輕蔑(對 Brian 也對周遭的人)

還有幾個字每每唱到都莫名覺得很妙
像是  "effortlessness" 意思是「完全沒費力」可是唱起來那麼多音節卻很矛盾
"strangely comforted" 也是一絕，哈哈我超愛那個尾音 "ed"
"un-forecasted storm" 故作性感然後吼一聲真爽
"Calm, Collected and Commanding" 三個「頭韻」鏗鏘有力節奏感十足
不過當然最嗨的還是最後那個"that have wept 'cause you've stolen their...Thunder"
那個 "Thunder" 口吻超微妙的，感覺在那一刻 Al 自爽的化身成為了 Brian
而 "See you later Innovator!"也是 Al 的招牌「頓音」
