Match Summary:
This is one game Argentina will want to forget in a hurry. The defending
champions were expected to waltz past the Canadian's. Instead, Argentina
wound up having their ego bruised by a gutsy Canadian team which took the
fight to the champions, Jason Bent's (CAN) goal was a classic. From a free
kick "dummy" he received a pass and unleashed a thundering shot which crashed
into the back of the net. The effort came after a number of attempts. A
penalty shot by Riquelme (ARG) in the 66th minute was little justice to a
team which came close to defying the odds.
Bruse Twamley (Canada coach): We played a fantastic team. We gave them a
scare. We were nervouse at the start but settled down. We could have stolen
the game. I'm proud of my players. They had lots of fight and determination.
It's a pity that we lost the way we did.
Jose Nestor Pekerman (Argentina coach): Our aim was to win. Canada's main aim
was all-out defence and perhaps score on the break. It is possible that one
or two of our players did not play to their potential but that could also be
due to the Canadian players blocking them.
