Match Summary:
Very equilibrated game with Argentina pressing a little bit more. Cautious
build up on both sides. One could really feel how decisive this match was for
qualifying for the next round. After 30 minutes, the game became more
exciting and both teams had some good attacking moves. Croatia was strong
defensively but their offensive game was a mere shadow of their previous two
games. After the break, Argentina went in search of the victory but the match
dropped around the 75th minute. It seems a draw would suit both teams.
Facts & Figures
1 Argentina scored only once in the 270 minutes played in the 1st round.
The goal by Cambiasso against Kazakhstan was enough to qualify the
defending champions to the round of 16 without waiting for tomorrow旧
matches: both the 3rd ranked in Group A and C have in fact a worse
record than Argentina: Australia have 1 point less, Costa Rica a worse
goal difference.
2 As happened last summer in France, Croatia qualify for the round of 16.
Both times the Croats have played a final phase of a FIFA competition,
they were able to reach the next round.
3 Argentina tonight notched their 3rd draw in 38 matches played in WYC
final phases (25 wins and 10 defeats). In both previous draws, Argentina
played against an European team: Republic of Ireland on 20 June 1991 in
Lisbon (2-2) and England on 5 October 1981 in Sydney (1-1).
