Yon have to be rather special to force your way into
a team boasting Ronaldo,Zidane and Figo,but Javier Portillo
has more than earned his place among Real Madrid's cast of superstars.
The young Spaniard,who turned 21 in March,scored a staggering 408 goals
(the total is nearer 700 if you include friendlies)in Madrid's
youth and reserves teams before being given his senior debut.
Surprise,surprise,he scored,also finding the net on his
Champions League debut against Panathinaikos last March.
A natural predator,Portillo has scored 11 goals this season
despite being limited to only 700 minutes on the pitch.
His haul includes a crucial last-minute equaliser agaist
Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League with Madrid on the brink
of being knocked out of the tournament.
How long will Portillo remain happy with just the odd cameo?
West Ham and Fulham's efforts to take him on loan during
the January transfer window were laughed at in Madrid,
but Portillo's goalscoring instinct is too rare to be left on the
bench for much longer.
