Substitute Ortega's penalty in the 73rd minute turned out to be the winning
goal after Kocaelispor equalised in the 50th minute thanks to a defensive
mistake at the near post. Washington's header from Serhat's cross made it 1-0
in the 18th minute of the 1st half.
Werner Lorant began with the same side that beat Bursaspor apart from Rustu,
who stayed out due to injury, leaving his place for Oguz. Rustu, Rapaic, Yusuf
and Revivo were not in the 18 man matchday squad announced by Lorant. Ortega
didn't start after his long journey back from Japan on Thursday.
Tuncay's hard work on the right was followed by a pass to Serhat, who then
skipped past Nuri and managed to squeeze in a cross to Washington. The
Brazilian headed home to give us the lead.
Kocaelispor's equaliser was gifted by Oguz in goal, as he failed to deal with
a cross into the near post and knocked it into his own goal. Huseyin seemed to
claim the goal but he didn't seem to get the faintest of touches.
Ali Gunes was tripped in the area in the 73rd minute and referee Cem Papila
pointed to the spot. Ariel Ortega took his trademark penalty and sent the
keeper to the wrong side. This was to be Ortega's 5th goal of the season.
Washington came close to killing the game off with a couple of chances towards
the end of the game but Kocaeli's keeper Korac equalled to his efforts.
Kocaelispor's attacks in the final minutes were stopped by a solid defence
that saw the return of Mustafa Dogan in the second half.
