A left-sided defender, Diego Placente is an excellent passer and mover of the
ball. He started out with Argentinos Juniors before joining River Plate, where
he claimed three domestic titles and a South American Super Cup. Had to be
content with second best this season, though, as his club Bayer Leverkusen were
runners-up in the German league and cup as well as in the European Champions
League. Starred for Argentina at the 1997 FIFA World Under-20 Championship.
