"FC Porto is our role model"

Romeo: Of course I want to play. But first of all it is important that all

MOPO: Why that?
Romeo: This is my club, here I made the jump back into the national team .

went to Hamburg. But he could follow many of my games. And he must

Romeo: Exactly. I scored 14 times in 26 matches. Who knows, how many goals

Romeo: I know. Nevertheless I always remained calm. It does not disturb me.

Romeo: You know, this is exactly the fate of a striker. I know that I only

MOPO: But nevertheless, HSV signed a competitor for you in the winter with
Naohiro Takahara. Did you feel this as a threat?
Romeo: Never! I had a back operation, was in rehabilitation training and
couldn't have played anyway. But I knew that coach Kurt Jara has
a total confidence in me. For me it was clear that as soon as I was
fit, I would play again.
MOPO: And what would have happened if Takahara scored alot in the first
matches ?
Romeo: I always knew that I had a place in the team assured.
MOPO: Do you like Taka?
Romeo: Oh yes! He is very intelligent and has outstanding manners. I like
him very much. He almost always hangs around with Ledesma, Cardoso
and me, because he can speak spanish with us.
MOPO: The HSV reached the UEFA Cup primarily due to home strength. Where
is the secret in that ?
Romeo: Our fans contribute an enormous portion to our success. At the end
of the season we always had 50,000 spectators. And I can understand
everyone who comes into our stadium. It is one the most modern and
most beautiful stadiums which I ever saw in my life.
MOPO: You never had any adaptation problems due your South American
mentality in Hamburg.
Romeo: That's because in some points, the Hamburg supporters are quite
similar to those in Argentina. They are unbelievably fanatic, I
love them. Above all the completely die hard fans behind the goal
have a South American touch.
MOPO: How long will you stay in Hamburg? Spain and Italy are probably also
very delightful.
Romeo: No, no, I have a contract until 2006 and feel unbelievably well.
Also my wife and the children are very pleased. I don't want to live
anywhere else than in Hamburg at the moment. We now have the
opportunity to become a great team.
MOPO: How can that be done?
Romeo: By continuing where we stopped. Perhaps we now can meet Valencia
or Barcelona in the UEFA Cup - that would help us alot to develop
as a team. I believe, we have an outstanding chance to get very far.

Romeo: Surely, everything is possible. FC Porto showed us how to do it.

MOPO: Does the team still need reinforcements?
Romeo: I'm not the one to decide that. But it would be good. In the new
season, we are starting in three competitions, it would be nice
to have a backup for each position in the team.
MOPO: Considering your career, what are your dreams?
Romeo: At first I want to become german champions with the HSV as soon
as possible. And afterwards I hope to be able to play at the 2006
wc with Argentina in the AOL Arena. This is my city. Here I feel
at home.
