Robert Pires admits Patrick Vieira's move to Juventus is the end of an era at
Arsenal.
Vieira is poised to join the Italian champions after Arsenal accepted a €20
million (?13.5 million) offer for the France international.
The midfield powerhouse will undergo a medical in Turin on Friday before
signing a five-year contract at Stadio Delle Alpi.
His return to Serie A will end his nine-year association with The Gunners for
whom he has been an inspirational figure as captain.
Vieira's compatriot Pires, who has also been linked with Juventus, concedes
the loss of the Arsenal captain will be sorely felt.
But while Pires will miss his fellow Frenchman at Highbury, he paid tribute
to Vieira as he finalises his move to Juventus.
"I am disappointed because Patrick was a very important player to us," Pires
told Le Parisien.
"His departure is a big loss for the club.
"At first, it will be a bit strange in the changing room and in the stadium
where we will not hear the fans chanting his song anymore.
"It is the end of an era. It is a whole period that leaves us, not only
Patrick Vieira.
"But I am also happy for him because it is a new big adventure, a new
challenge.
"He leaves for a big European club, maybe he needs to do that. Anyway, I wish
him a lot of success."
