Arsenal gunning for Hleb

Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to make Alexander Hleb his first signing of
the summer as The Gunners look to strengthen their squad and catch up with
London neighbours Chelsea.

Wenger has been promised substantial transfer funds by the club's board, and
has been tracking the Belarus international midfielder for well over a year.

Hleb is believed to have a buy-out clause in his contract at a value of
around €15 million and could well be set to leave current club Stuttgart,
with a host of European giants monitoring his progress.

The 24-year-old would provide strong competition for Freddie Ljungberg on the
right wing of the Gunners midfield, and has proved himself to be a standout
performer in Die Bundesliga with the Swabians.

Hleb himself admitted that he has a diverse range of options should he desire
to further his career away from the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium, and revealed
that the North London outfit had shown the most concrete interest to date.

"Yes, there are teams looking at me," said Hleb.

"I believe they are Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal.

"But Arsenal have shown the strongest interest, we will have to wait and see."

However The Gunners may have to stump up serious cash if they are to test the
resolve of Stuttgart, as the German outfit have previously intimated they are
determined to keep hold of the star.
