Wenger swayed Hoyte decision

LONDON (ARSENAL-MANIA) - Justin Hoyte, speaking from his new base on
Wearside, has spoken of how Arsene Wenger swayed his decision to join
Sunderland.
Hoyte would have been a member of the first team squad this season, and
would probably have made several appearances for the first team. However,
Wenger insisted that his development would accelerate if he moved to a
club fighting at the bottom of the table.
For Hoyte, the opportunity to move to Sunderland was a bit of a surprise.
"I was in training at the end of last week and the manager asked to have
a chat with me," Hoyte explained.
"He told me about Sunderland's interest and it all happened very quickly
after that, I was up for a medical on Tuesday and signed on the Wednesday.
"Mr Wenger said that he felt it would be good for my development to go
to play for Sunderland. He said it was an excellent opportunity for me.
He said they were a good club with a good manager and some good players.
"He said it was up to me to come up here, work hard and make an impression.
"He gave me the choice and I could have said No, but as soon as I found
out about it, I wanted to have the opportunity to come here.
"I've met Mick McCarthy briefly, but we haven't talked about a specific
role yet. I know he was a very good defender when he was a player so
that was another factor in me wanting to come here. I can learn a few t
hings from him while I'm here.
"Hopefully I can play regular first team football here, but you cannot
take anything for granted."
With Sunderland recently losing left back George McCartney to injury, as
well as right back Stephen Wright with a knee problem, Hoyte may see a
lot of playing time as he is able to deputise in both positions.
He will hopefully return to Arsenal a much better player than he left.
