(YAHOO) Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is desperate
for a goal for Sweden against San Marinoon Saturday.
Ljungberg will go into Sweden's Euro 2004 qualifier in San
Marino desperate for a goal after admitting: "I've almost
forgotten what it's like to score for the national team".
The Arsenal midfielder became the first Swede to score a
Premiership hat-trick in the 4-0 final day win
at Sunderland and has netted over 40 times for the Gunners
since joining in 1998.
But at international level it is another story, with just
two goals in 36 outings and none in the last four years.
"I should have scored more goals for the national team, I'm
the first to admit that. I've missed a whole load of chances,"
the 26-year-old told Swedish newspaper Expressen. "But the style
of play in the national team is different and I have to accept that."
If Ljungberg fails to net against the Group 4 whipping boys,
then he will at least get another chance in the qualifying
match against Poland next Wednesday.
His last goal for Sweden was a mazy run from the halfway
line, also in a European Championship qualifier against the Poles.
