Valencia have given up any hope of signing Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires.
The Frenchman seems likely to remain at Highbury even though he has yet to
agree an extension to his contract in North London.
Valencia were keen to recruit Pires, whose mother is Spanish, but reports in
France claim his salary demands were too excessive for the Liga outfit.
Any move to the club would have seen the winger link up again with Edu who
has completed a Bosman free transfer to the 2004 Spanish champions.
Meanwhile, Willy Sagnol is another player who will not heading for La
Mestalla as the Bayern Munich defender wants to see out his contract, which
runs until 2006.
The full back is reluctant to sign a new deal with Bayern and will assess his
options next summer.
