Arsenal boss offers Bentley hope
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told midfielder David Bentley he does have a
future at Highbury.
Bentley, 20, is on loan at Norwich but is currently out injured with knee
ligament damage and Wenger warned he would need to improve physically.
"My hopes for him are very high. He has the technical level, the mental
approach, the personality and is very keen to work hard," said Wenger.
"For him it is down to how he has improved physically."
Bentley impressed for Nigel Worthington's side early in the season but his
form dipped and the Canaries are currently bottom of the Premiership.
"He had a good start (to his loan spell), then a dip," Wenger told Arsenal's
official website.
"That is always predictable with a young player. When he came back, to a very
good level, unfortunately he got injured.
"That is why I think it is interesting for him to finish the season well.
"He has to show he can compete at a top level Premiership club. I know he is
back in training and could be in contention for a place in the team soon."
Bentley made a return to action in Norwich reserves' goalless draw against
Charlton's second string.
The England Under-21 international is targeting a return to action for the
Canaries clash against Manchester United on 9 April.
