A flurry of second-half goals took Arsenal Ladies into the last eight of
the FA Women's Cup and kept Vic Akers' side on target for a domestic 'treble'.
The holders started poorly against a stubborn Middlesbrough side and
had no more than a couple of squandered half-chances to their name
before the break.
But that all changed in the second half as Akers' team showed more urgency
and found their passing rhythm.
The Gunners eventually got their reward when Helen Lander was slotted the ball
past Boro's goalkeeper from close range following a goal-mouth scramble.
Kim Little gave Arsenal some breathing space a few minutes later,
finding the bottom corner from fully 25 yards.
Lander put the tie beyond Boro's reach when she headed home her second -
and Arsenal's third - from Rachel Yankey's corner.
And substitute Karen Carney added a fourth when her shot deflected off a Boro
defender and floated over the keeper's head.
