Arsene Wenger has paid tribute to Vic Akers’ magnificent career as
Arsenal Ladies manager.
Victory at Everton in their final game of the season secured the Ladies’
sixth consecutive Women’s Premier League trophy and wrapped up
their domestic treble too.
Akers is moving upstairs to become ‘General Manager’ in the summer
so winning on Merseyside was the perfect way to finish his 22-year rein.
In total, the manager has scooped a staggering 32 major honours,
including the Uefa Women’s Cup in 2007.
Speaking at a press conference last week, Wenger was keen to heap praise
on the departing boss and hopes the Ladies can carry on his good work
when he leaves.
“I would like to congratulate him on the tremendous job he has done
with the Ladies” the Frenchman said.
“We are very happy about what he has done for years - it’s not easy.
Unfortunately I think he wants to stop now but we wish the Ladies team
to carry on like that.”
