Five Gunners in PFA Team of the Year
By Chris Harris
Five Arsenal players have been named in the PFA's Team of the Year.
Thierry Henry, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires
were all nominated by their fellow professionals at a ceremony on Sunday.
Henry also scooped the Player of the Year award after scoring 34 goals for
Arsenal this season, including 22 in the Premiership.
The 25-year-old striker, who reached a century of goals for the Gunners
in January, was also named in last year's PFA team.
Cole and Campbell were cornerstones of Arsenal's Double-winning side last
season and have been integral to the team's quest for honours this year.
Vieira replaced the retired Tony Adams as club captain at the start of the
season and has revelled in his new responsibility to remain the driving
force in Arsenal's midfield.
Pires missed the first two months of the season as he completed his recovery
from a knee-ligament injury.
However, the Football Writers' Player of the Year for last season has
scored 12 goals since returning to action.
