Thierry Henry named as PFA Player of the Year
By Chris Harris
Thierry Henry has been named as Player of the Year by the the Professional
Footballers Association.
The 25-year-old French international has thrived in the domestic game and
the Champions League this season, with a hat-trick at Roma one of his many
highlights.
The Arsenal striker has scored 34 goals for the Gunners to date this season
, including 22 in the Premiership.
Henry is one behind Southampton's James Beattie in his quest for a second
successive Golden Boot, and he also boasts the most assists in the top
flight this season.
"This means a lot to me because the other players have voted for me," said
Henry.
"They all know better than anyone else because they play against me and they
must have noticed something, so I'm happy they have noticed something.
"It's never easy when you come from another country to get people to like
you but, at the end of the day, the most important thing is football, no
matter which country you are from.
"We are all trying to play the same and to do well on the pitch, so
nationality doesn't really matter."
Henry completed a century of goals for Arsenal when he scored his second
in a 4-1 victory at Birmingham in January.
