Player Ratings
Szczesny 6 – Confessed he is working hard in training to improve his kicking
which indeed needs to be improved. Also a little hesitant in a number of
occasion.
Koscielny and Djourou: 8 – Two gladiators, especially in the air. It doesn’
t happen that often but today I was certain we would not concede and as I
said in the introduction, to concede, it had to be something special. And as
if doing well at the back was not enough, Laurent produced a delicious pass
to Bacary in the first half which could have easily resulted in a goal.
Gibbs: 6 – Another shaky defensive display from the youngster. Very easily
turned by Snodgrass in the first half and caught out a few times. Hopefully,
he will learn and gain the required experience the more he plays.
Sagna: 8,5 – That he will be missed against Barcelona is a fact. That the
suspension would have made him more hungry and angry is another. Both facts
were proved tonight, top class performance.
Denilson: 6,5 – Some bad moments in midfield but an overall calm and
collected performance from the Brasilian.
Song: 7 – Typical Alex Song game for the Cameroon International. Very solid
in midfield, covered well for Kieran Gibbs and not shy to try his luck as it
was the case in the first minute of the second half when he was denied by the
always-excellent Kasper Schmeichel.
Nasri: 8,5 – As if scoring and turning provider for his team mates is not
enough, today I was impressed by his desire and fighting spirit in the middle
of the pitch as he ran, chased and fought until he came off.
Bendtner: 6,5 – Right-wing is not his favourite position but he tried, tried
hard and today it was a success. Was the one who started the move which led
to Bacary’s 35th minute goal and went on to produce more assists in the
second half, including, of course, the one to Robin.
Arshavin: 5,5 – Worked hard the Russian but it seems nothing is working for
him at the moment. Made no contact with the ball after a brilliant cross by
Marouane in the 19th minute and blasted a good opportunity in the 58th minute
before leaving the pitch.
Chamakh: 6,5 – Excellent game from the Moroccan who was the key to Samir’s
first goal with his movement and forced a super save from the goalkeeper. I
feel, however, that he still needs a couple of games to be back at his best.
(Subs)
Fabregas and van Persie: 7 – It’s not difficult to understand why they are
so important for us. Two players who were unfairly criticised during the
first part of the season (For Barcelona the Spaniard and for too many
injuries the Dutchman) are now fit, hungry and hitting top form.
