Theo Walcott has apologised to Arsène Wenger and Simon Grayson for diving in
the final stages of Arsenal’s draw with Leeds on Saturday.

The winger was hauled down for the last-minute spot-kick that levelled the FA
Cup Third Round tie. But, just before that, the home side had claimed a
penalty when the England international appeared to be felled by Alex Bruce.
However, speaking afterwards, Walcott admitted he had not been clipped.

“I want to apologise to the managers because I actually dived,” said the
21-year-old. “I was trying to win the penalty.

“I said to one of their players ‘would you have done it?’ and he said he
probably would have.

“I am not the sort of player to do it but I own up to it and apologise. It
is something I don’t want to see in my game.

“I have heard some players say if there is a slight touch go down and it can
work both ways. It was one of those things. I am not happy with myself for
doing that but I am happy that we got the draw.

"I had a little joke with the referee afterwards saying ‘that was my first
dive, can you tell?’

“I don’t have to own up to it and I can’t speak for other players but I
have just expressed how I feel. I hope people respect that.”

Walcott did win a legitimate penalty a couple of minutes later and Arsenal
nearly forced a dramatic winner in injury time when Denilson’s drive was
turned aside.

“Yes, Kasper [Schmeichel] made some great saves and reminds me so much of
his Dad,” said Walcott. “It was not really our day today but we could have
won it at the end.”

Walcott - No regrets over dive confession

Theo Walcott does not regret admitting that he took a dive against Leeds
United.

The Arsenal forward tumbled in the box towards the end of the FA Cup
Third-Round tie at Emirates Stadium nine days ago - moments before he won a
legitimate penalty - and confessed to reporters afterwards that he had gone
down dishonestly.

Walcott was involved in another penalty incident at the weekend when Wayne
Bridge clearly swept his legs away and Robin van Persie wrapped up a 3-0
victory from the spot at Upton Park. It rekindled memories of Walcott's Leeds
episode but the player is pleased he came clean.

"I've got no regrets about what I said," said Walcott, who scored the second
goal in Arsenal's win over West Ham.

"I'm an honest player, I want to be honest with my team-mates, Leeds and the
manager and all the staff. That's the sort of player that I am. If I'm going
to be punished for being honest then I can't win.

"It's in the past, I've forgotten about it now and I just want to carry on
enjoying playing my football now. With decisions like that, it makes it
easier for me."

Some feel Walcott may have done himself few favours by admitting he took a
dive because referees may treat him more suspiciously as a result. But the
21-year-old disagrees.

"No [there is no stigma], not at all," he said. "People say that if you get
the slightest touch you should go down and when you do go down they have a go
at you for going down so you can't win.

"I'm not bothered, I'm just enjoying playing football for this team and
that's all I can do. If the referee's going to punish me or any other players
then I can't do anything about that. That's just the way I am."

倒地，但當你這麼做的時候又會有人出來抱怨。」

　　「我沒有受到這事的困擾，我只是在享受為球隊比賽，這就是我所能做的。如果裁判
要懲罰我或者任何球員，我對此無能為力。這就是我的行事風格。」
