Wenger close to new deal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he expects to sign a new
contract "within the next few days".
Wenger's current Highbury contract expires at the end of this season
but his new deal is set to keep him at the club until at least 2008.
"I am committed to the future of the club and it is a question of days
before we will announce an extension.
"I am not worried about it at all - and I expect it should be extended
for a few years," he said.
"My contract is just a question now of fine details between my lawyer
and the club's lawyers. The money is not in question."
Wenger made his announcement at a news conference to announce a ￡100m
sponsorship deal for Arsenal's new stadium at Ashburton Grove.
Dubai-based Emirates Airlines revealed a 15-year deal and will put
their name to the new ground.
And Wenger's revelation was further good news for Arsenal fans.
Since coming to Highbury in 1996, the Frenchman has led Arsenal to
three FA Cup triumphs and three Premier League titles.
The Gunners did not lose a single match on their way to last season's
Premiership title and are now unbeaten in their last 48 league games.
