Vieira makes vow to regain form http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/3992141.stm Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has admitted he has not been at his best so far this season but has warned he will bounce back. A thigh injury kept the 27-year-old midfielder out until September and he has since failed to show his usual commanding form in midfield. "I'm not playing at my best," he told BBC Sport. "I missed the pre-season and I know I can play better. "Of course, there is a lot more to come from me." Vieira turned down a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid during the summer and there have been accusations he is playing in the comfort zone since the protracted summer transfer saga. But he said: "Not at all. I'm the captain of the Arsenal football team and that is a big responsibility. I have to perform every day. "I know I have to perform and I know that I have to play well. "But if I don't play well at all and we win the league I will take that straight away." Vieira has seen the Gunners knocked off their Premiership perch by Chelsea after a loss to arch rivals Manchester United and a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last Saturday. But Vieira says the growing pressure on Arsenal will only spur both him and the rest of the Highbury squad to rise to the challenge. "When you play at a big club like Arsenal the weight of pressure is on our shoulders and it does not make me afraid at all," added Vieira at a promotion of the Diambars project he helped found and which provides education and professional football training for African children. "I love it to be honest and that's made me improve a lot in the last few years so that is not going to change. Vieira insists he has banished the Real Madrid episode out of his mind and is using the team's 49-games unbeaten run, which was ended by United, as encouragement to help Arsenal get their title assault back on track. "I don't want to talk about Real Madrid. That is the past. I'm looking forward and forward is Arsenal with so many important games coming," he said. "Obviously, the games in the Premiership and Champions League are really important and that is what matters to me." He concluded: "As a team and, as captain, we do not forget what we have done in the those 49 games. "If we have been invincible for the 49 games it is because we have played fantastic football and that's not going just like that. "We believe in ourselves and we know that we can beat any team. "The team always respond well when we are in this position so I have no doubts about that."
