LONDON, July 20 (Reuters) - Dutch striker Dennis Bergkamp has signed
a new one-year contract with Arsenal, the premier league club said on
Sunday.
"I'm so pleased to have signed a new contract. As I have always said,
Arsenal is a fantastic club and it has always been my intention to
end my career here," the 34-year-old told Arsenal's website.
Bergkamp, whose contract expired at the end of June, joined Arsenal
in 1995 from Inter Milan for 7.5 million pounds ($11.93 million) and
was instrumental in the club's league and FA Cup double successes of
1998 and 2002.
Manager Arsene Wenger said: "I have always said it is important to
retain the players we already have, so it's great news that Dennis
has committed himself to the club for another year.
"Dennis is a special talent with vast experience and that will
certainly help us in our pursuit of honours," he said.
