Francis Jeffers has continued to be used mainly as a substitute this
season. He had come on seven times in Premiership games by the start
of 2003.

But his first three starts reaped two goals a well-taken effort
against Sunderland in the Worthington Cup and a crucial equaliser at
West Brom on Boxing Day.

Francis continued to hammer home his credentials in the reserves by
hitting seven goals in his opening four games.
