A superb 75 minutes against Sheffield United on Tuesday may have earned
Quincy a place in the Arsenal side at the weekend.
The 18-year-old Dutch striker came on at half time at Bramall Lane and
tested the home defence throughout the remainder of the match. It must
have impressed his manager.
“You have a very good chance of seeing Quincy over the weekend,” Arsene
Wenger told Arsenal PLUS on Thursday, “especially with the number of
strikers we have out.”
Quincy’s inclusion may hinge on whether Thierry Henry returns to the team.
The French striker missed Tuesday’s tie because of his on-going Achilles
problem. Wenger was not so definite about the top scorer's participation,
but said: “Thierry has a chance to play on Saturday.”
Of course the manager is very aware of the crucial Champions League tie
against Bayern Munich coming up on Wednesday. That may influence who
succumbs to their knocks and niggles for the Portsmouth game.
“At the moment, there is a big fatigue factor for the players who have
played all the games,” said Wenger
“Patrick Vieira and Freddie Ljungberg should be alright but Ashley Cole
has a hamstring problem and I might rest him on Saturday. Also Pascal
Cygan has a problem with his groin.”
Robin van Persie will be available after suspension while Dennis Bergkamp
and Jose Antonio Reyes will complete their three-game bans. Edu (hamstring),
Justin Hoyte (ankle), Robert Pires (ankle) and Sol Campbell (ankle) are
all out. The latter two will definitely miss the game with Bayern.
