No Barca offer for Edu

Barcelona have told skysports.com they have not offered a contract
 to Arsenal midfielder Edu.

The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the season and has
been offered a five-year deal to stay at Highbury.

But the 26-year-old has revealed that a major European club are
attempting to entice him away from the Premiership champions, with
 Manchester United and Barcelona linked with the player.

Edu has improved markedly during almost four years in North London
 after a ￡6 million switch from Corinthians in his homeland.

His future remains uncertain while he mulls over the various offers,
 but Spanish giants Barcelona are adamant they are not one of Edu's
 suitors.

The Catalan club's sporting director Txiki Beguiristain claims he
was offered the chance to sign Edu during the summer.

Beguiristain rejected the opportunity and says Barcelona have no
 desire to resurrect the deal, as they have sufficient options in
 midfield.

"Edu is a good player, but we have not presented him with any
proposition," Beguiristain told skysports.com.

"And the main reason for that is because we have enough cover in
 that position.

"Last summer, an agent offered us several Brazilian players,
including Edu, but we did not study that option seriously."

Beguiristain admits he is unsurprised that Edu has been mooted
as an arrival at Camp Nou, as the midfielder is now forced to
scratch Barcelona off his list of possible destinations.

He added: "It is normal that, ahead of the winter transfer window
 and with injured players, Barcelona appears as a candidate in
the newspapers to sign players."

ArsenalArsenal midfielder Edu would relish a move to Barcelona
 after admitting talks regarding a new deal at Highbury have
reached an impasse.

Edu's contract with the Premiership champions expires at the
end of the season and he has been offered a deal to stay in
North London.

The Brazilian international, though, has yet to reach an accord
 with The Gunners and will be free to talk to foreign clubs in
the New Year.

Barcelona have been linked with a bid for the 26-year-old, but
recently admitted they had no immediate plans to propose a deal
 to Edu. 

But a midfield injury crisis could force a rethink at Camp Nou
and prompt a January bid for the former Corinthians ace.

Edu is proud to have been mentioned in the same breath as the
Catalan giants and would accept Barca's overtures, if they
strike a deal with Arsenal when the transfer window reopens.

"I'll be free to discuss my future from January if I have not
agreed a new deal with Arsenal," said Edu.

"At present, talks are at a standstill, but if things continue
 this way, I will be able to make a decision.

"Any footballer would love to play for Barcelona and I am no
different. Knowing they are interested in me fills me with pride.

"The two clubs have to talk first. But if the chance comes up
I wouldn't mind taking it.

"The team are playing very well right now and are top of La
Liga. But it is a similar story with Arsenal, they are a great
 club as well."

Edu is currently on international duty, as Brazil prepare for
 a World Cup qualifying double-header, but the stylish midfielder
 is keen review his future when he returns to England.

He added: "Once I get back to Europe, that will be the time to
 think about my future once more."

在Silva至少到月底還不能出賽的情況下
溫格仍不打算讓Edu在對AstonVilla的比賽上場
所以也不急著把Edu從南美叫回來
由於之前(很久了吧?!)Edu表示很榮幸被Barca看上
加上槍手中場有個從Barca來的閃亮小強Fabregas可以頂他的缺

Barcelona target Edu will not be considered for a place in Arsenal's
bid to rack up a 49th consecutive unbeaten Premiership game against
Aston Villa at Highbury.
It means the Brazilian blend will be missing again from the Gunners'
midfield with Edu's compatriot Gilberto Silva a long-term absentee,
out until at least the end of the month nursing a cracked vertebrae.

But manager Arsene Wenger's refusal to even think about recalling Edu
after his international outing against Colombia and a long-haul flight
back from Brazil will surely carry a message for the player, who has
said he is flattered and interested in Barcelona's attentions.

Edu was reported to be upset by Wenger's decision to leave him out in
favour of Cesc Fabregas in the 4-0 win over Charlton two weeks ago and
apparently sought an explanation from the manager why he was not even
selected among the substitutes.

Wenger has brilliant teenager Fabregas - ironically, a Barcelona native
- coming through like a train and is set to team him again in midfield
with Patrick Vieira, who helped put French World Cup aims back on track
in a 2-0 win in Cyprus on Wednesday night.

But a blow for the Highbury chief is Freddie Ljungberg's likely absence
against Villa.The Swede picked up a hamstring injury playing in the 4-1
win over Iceland on Wednesday and is rated as doubtful, with the final
decision on whether he will play being made on the eve of the game.

"We had 15 players away and most of them are all right, said Wenger.

"Freddie had a slight hamstring problem coming back from Sweden. I don't
know if he is out but he is a doubt. We feel that he could cause more damage
if he plays but a decision will be made tomorrow."

Although Premiership leaders Arsenal are keen to continue their winning
run against former hero David O'Leary's Villa and set up a possible
50-games-unbeaten record at Manchester United a week later, the treadmill
of international games may mean more rotation.

　　記者肖濤報道「埃杜要去巴塞羅那！」當阿森
納中場再次回到巴西國家隊時，關於他轉會西甲的
傳聞也再次響起。羅納爾迪尼奧的盛情邀請，只剩
下一年合約，在阿森納打不上絕對主力的現狀都在
迫使埃杜遠離倫敦。不過轉機仍然存在，溫格不願
意接受巴西人離開的結果，而且備受冷落的後腰很
可能重新受到重用。脊椎發現裂痕的吉爾貝托已經
長期缺陣，現在維埃拉又扭傷腳踝，阿森納暫時還
離不開埃杜。

  　　上輪對查爾頓的聯賽，埃杜與溫格之間就產
生了裂痕。由於主力位置被塞斯科替代，埃杜甚至
與主帥發生了口角。當巴西人從南美歸來時，情況
似乎也沒有任何好轉。隊友羅納爾多、羅納爾迪尼
奧都參加了週末的聯賽，埃杜卻連替補都不是，而
球場上槍手的表現則可能讓埃杜更加「嫉妒」。17
歲的塞斯科儼然一副進攻組織者的姿態，控制和分
球成熟老到，水平似乎又有不小的進步。他與維埃
拉之間的配合也日漸默契。有塞斯科負責中場調度
，阿森納隊長也更有時間發揮自己的爆發力。不僅
防守凶悍，讓對方中場拿不住球，上半場禁區內的
一次包抄，維埃拉的推射還幾乎敲開對方大門。更
「可氣」的是連替補上場的弗拉米尼也有出色表現
。正是年輕的法國人在右路快速前插，接著靈巧的
搶球橫傳給亨利，亨利才給皮雷製造了進球機會。

　　阿森納的三名後腰都發揮出色，排在「第四」
的埃杜肯定看不到任何希望，不過維埃拉的受傷還
是給巴西人留下了不少機會。阿森納隊長扭傷不太
嚴重，但在周中冠軍杯復出的幾率並不大。溫格需
要有經驗、有防守能力的後腰，屆時「成名」於冠
軍杯上的埃杜就肯定會成為法國人的首選。實際上
溫格考慮到的還不僅僅是一場冠軍杯比賽，聯賽下
半程將會更加艱苦，球隊也需要足夠的球員進行輪
換。「我們擁有塞斯科、吉爾貝托、維埃拉和埃杜
，公平地說，他們都有權利認為自己應該是主力。
」溫格仍然希望埃杜能夠留在隊內，與隊友進行公
平競爭。

　　為勸說埃杜留下，溫格還提到了當年的假護照
事件，試圖喚起埃杜的回憶，證明阿森納對他的耐
心和關懷。不過，精明的法國人也沒有忘記做第二
手準備，他宣稱一切都會在聖誕節前後見分曉。言
下之意，如果不能與埃杜續約，俱樂部將會考慮將
埃杜「賤賣」。

　　在明年 1月之前穩定球隊的結構，對溫格下半
程的改造計劃也將非常有利。在得到阿聯酋航空公
司的大筆贊助之後，溫格的轉會資金也隨之雄厚。
如果埃杜離開，法國人很可能會像上賽季引進雷耶
斯那樣再搞一次大的「突然行動」也不是不可能。
