Tonight, in front of about 60,000 fans at Old Trafford, Hoyte will be part of Arsene Wenger's Mothercare XI in the Carling Cup quarter-final against an equally youthful Manchester United. A good performance should put the 20-year-old in pole position to replace the suspended Lauren against Rosenborg in next Tuesday's vital Champions League clash at Highbury. And if all goes well, there is the prospect of a new contract. But Hoyte took a strictly one-step-at-a-time approach as he previewed the immediate future. Hoyte, whose mother Wendy ran in the British sprint relay team at the 1976 Olympics, said: "To be honest, all I am focusing on is the game at Old Trafford. "Rosenborg? That is up to the boss. Yes, it could be a good six days but I am just looking to have a good Wednesday night first. Then we will see what happens." So far this season, he has looked assured as the Arsenal young guns have reached the last eight by beating Manchester City and Everton. His immediate target is a semi-final place - but he is one of several youngsters who may be given their chance in the Premiership if Arsenal's injury and suspension problems begin to bite. Whether they will be able to handle the step up remains to be seen - but they certainly won't be intimidated. One incident in the 3-1 win over a full-strength Everton in the last round illustrates the point. Hoyte was involved in a touchline confrontation with the experienced and considerably older Kevin Kilbane. The Republic of Ireland international turned round to go head-to-head with Hoyte - but he did not budge an inch. Hoyte explained: "Just because we are young, we are not going to be pushovers." So if the tackles - or pizzas come to that - are flying around tonight, expect Hoyte and his young cohorts to stand firm. And success can only help his chances of securing a new deal to replace the one that runs out at the end of the season. "I want to stay here," he said. "It is never going to be easy at a club like Arsenal but I knew that when I signed. You have to look to Ashley Cole as a role model. He gives hope to everyone. You have to show the desire and the enthusiasm that he showed. It is hard here but to play for Arsenal is what I have lived for. I only ever wanted to play here. You just do everything you can to make it. "I have to be a better player through being here - training with World Cup winners or European Championship winners every day. But you can never know what will happen. "If you are not kicking on the door at a certain age, you may have to move on. But the ambition is to stay." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 80.229.140.103
