Mathieu Flamini is struggling to be fit for Saturday’s game with West
Brom.
Only last week, Arsene Wenger suggested the former Marseille midfielder
may be close to his first Premiership start after impressing in the Carling
Cup. But a knee injury picked up in the Reserves against Leicester on Monday
is likely to sideline him at the weekend.
The 20-year-old will have a final fitness test tomorrow but in an exclusive
interview on Thursday afternoon, the Arsenal manager explained why he could
do without another midfield injury right now.
“It is difficult to make a big rotation,” he said. “At the moment I have
not much choice with the players I have out. We already have Edu and Gilberto
missing in central midfield, where you sometimes need rotation, now Flamini
could be out with a knee problem as well.
“It is not a big one and he will have test tomorrow but I think it would
be a risk to put him in on Saturday.”
Gael Clichy (ankle) and Sol Campbell (calf) are also still missing.
