PENNANT WANTS BLUES MOVE
by Paul Higham - created on 10 Feb 2005
Birmingham City Jermaine Pennant wants to join Birmingham permanently
in the summer.
Pennant is currently on loan from Premiership champions Arsenal, with
his stint at St Andrews ending in the summer.
With his current contract at Highbury also expiring at the end of the
season, Pennant is hopeful he can sign permanently for Blues.
Steve Bruce took a gamble on Pennant as the 21-year-old is facing a
jail sentence after pleading guilty to a string of driving offences -
which occurred while he was already disqualified from driving.
Pennant told Sky Sports News that he hopes to make a permanent move
to the Second City this summer.
"I think this is a view to a permanent move but I'm not too sure,"
Pennant told Sky Sports News.
"My contract runs out in the summer, and I'm on loan here until the
summer, so if all goes well and I keep playing well then it might
turn out to something more permanent.
"But I would like to sign here."
Pennant is has just a couple of games left to play before appearing
in court, where he could face jail, but he says he is not thinking
about that yet.
"You don't worry about that.
"You just try to concentrate on playing for the team and working
hard for yourself and your tea-mates.
"People make mistakes - I've just got to move on now and put things
behind me and start moving in the right direction.
"You can't keep making the same mistakes or you'll end up throwing
your football career away and I don't want to do that."
