In the action Now 17 years old, the former FC Barcelona player has gained plenty of experience this season while covering for the injured Patrick Vieira at the heart of the Arsenal midfield, and has also been in the thick of the action in the UEFA Champions League, scoring his first goal in the competition against Rosenborg BK on Tuesday. He spoke to uefa.com about his future, and his hairstyle Q: How much do you think you have progressed and developed since the start of the season when you covered for Vieira? A: I think I have developed and grown a lot as a player. Arsene Wenger gave me the opportunity to show what I can do and I have profited from it. I'm growing up playing with the best team, in the best league, in the world and this is very important for me and for my football. I have no regrets about leaving Barcelona but I'm glad for the club and their success Q: How much has Vieira helped you establish yourself? A: Patrick has helped me grow as a person and also as a player. I have much to thank him for and I think when I look back I will owe a debt to him. Q: Arsenal have a whole new generation of players ready to step up in a few years. Are you looking forward to the responsibility of being the heart of the new side? A: I'm playing with that pressure in every game. This will continue over the next few years when I become the experienced player. I will help all the young players as many of Arsenal's senior players have helped me. Q: Arsenal are being criticised for their mistakes in defence. Is that undermining the team? Or is it unfair criticism? A: Yes, it is unfair criticism. We have a good defence(!?), which is helped by Sol Campbell coming back. But as a whole we are not playing as well as we should be. We know we're not in the best form right now but we believe in our team and each other. And we're confident we can still win the Premiership. This team has a winning mentality with players who know what it takes [to win]. Although everyone now expects us to win every game like we did last year, I'm sure the team will bounce back from this dip. Q: Who was your footballing idol? A: Pep Guardiola was my idol. He played in the position I wanted to play in and he was my reference point for growing up as a footballer. Q: Were you daunted by settling into a new life in England? A: Not really. I have my family and friends around me and it helped that I have Jose Antonio Reyes here at Arsenal and I am good friends with Gerard Pique at Manchester United [FC]. Q: You had your long hair cut earlier this season. Was that because your Arsenal team-mates were making jokes about it? A: My team-mates are no longer teasing me about my hairstyle. They gave me a really hard time about it before, especially Reyes -- 不知道週末ESPN的歐冠精華裡會不會撥出這段 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ※ 編輯: Noel 來自: 140.112.23.165 (12/10 21:14)
