Milan Baros
was selected Carlsberg Man of the Match after his goal helped
the Czech Republic overturn a one-goal deficit against Latvia in their
UEFA EURO 2004 Group D game in Aveiro
Audacious volley
After a quiet first-half in which he was restricted to an audacious
but unsuccessful volley, Baros became a much greater threat as
the Czechs wore down the valiant Latvians in the second period.
Just after the hour he met a right-wing cross from Poborsky,
but failed to hit the target.
Vital equaliser
A short time later, the Latvian goakeeper saved a Baros shot and coach
Karel Bruckner responded by adding Vladimir Smicer to the fray.
Within minutes, the Liverpool FC striker scored a vital equaliser,
hammering the ball in from ten metres. By now the running was with the
Czech's and Baro? continued to press before Marek Heinz scored the winner.
