Lu had bowed out in the first round in Melbourne in the past two years, but the world No.103 produced the best Grand Slam performance of his career on Day One to thrash Germany's Simon Greul to book his second-round berth. Lu hit 33 winners to just 16 for Greul as he advanced 6-3 6-4 6-3 in just two hours to set up a second round clash with Russian No.25 seed Mikhail Youzhny. It was only the third time Lu, who improved his ranking last year from 160 to 103, had gone past the first round of a Grand Slam tournament having also reached the second round at Wimbledon in 2004 and 2005. Lu was joined in the second round by Thailand's Danai Udomchoke, who was equally impressive in thrashing Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-3 6-3 6-2. It was also the first time the 25-year-old, who last year improved his ranking from 129 to 89, had survived the first round at Melbourne Park, but he did make the second round at Wimbledon in 2005. Udomchoke will now also face a daunting second round assignment against 2003 French Open champion and No.24 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero. However, the decline of fellow Thai Paradorn Srichaphan, so long the flag bearer for Asian tennis, continued when he was thrashed 6-4 6-2 6-2 by little-known Israeli Dudi Sela, who was playing just his second Grand Slam event. It was the second successive year Srichaphan, whose ranking has fallen from No.11 to No.53 over the past three years, had been knocked out in the first round at Melbourne Park having also bowed out in the first round at both the French Open and Wimbledon last year. But there was more good news for Asia in the opening round of women's action with Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama advancing to the second round. The 31-year-old, who is seeded No.23 this year, was too good for Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson winning 6-4 6-3 to advance past the first round at Melbourne Park for the first time since 2004. Sugiyama, a quarterfinalist at Melbourne in 2000 and at Wimbledon in 2004, triumphed despite an attack of the serving yips as she served up 11 double faults compared to just one for her Swedish opponent. However, her fellow Japanese player, men's Asian wildcard entrant Go Soeda was not so fortunate as he bowed out in straight sets to No.9 seed Croatian Mario Ancic 6-4 6-3 6-2. Chinese world No.81 Tian Tian Sun made her bow early at Melbourne Park, with Argentine Gisela Dulko, getting the better of the 2004 Olympic doubles champion, winning 6-2 6-2. No.31 seed Jie Zheng of China got off to a good start against German Julia Schruff, taking the first set, but Schruff battled back to topple Zheng 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-4 on Court Six, while Australian Monique Adamczak ousted Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan 6-1, 6-4. -- ╔════════╦════════╦════════╦════════╗ Name:Sugiuchi,47Name:Saitoh,66 Name:Arakaki,18 Name:Wada,21 Heights:175cm Heights:192cm Heights:189cm Heights:178cm Weights:81kg Weights:100kg Weights:80kg Weights:75kg Glove:Rawlings Glove:Adidas Glove:Mizuno Glove:Nike ╚════════╩════════╩════════╩════════╝ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.167.175.221 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.167.173.190
