Buck's a fine defender, so it's a sure thing that he'll be a regular catcher
in the majors. However, as his offense has declined, so has his stock as a
prospect. Buck had an 818 OPS in 2000 and an 828 OPS in 2001, but he fell to
736 in Double-A last year and was at just 687 before breaking his right hand
last month. He's still young enough to turn into a solid hitter, but since he
hasn't done much this year, the Astros may try to re-sign Brad Ausmus for a
year and push back Buck's arrival to 2005.
